Abstract

Early utilization and implementation of the Arpanet and Internet hinged largely on problem centred research endeavours among established academic and scientific communities. Most of these early adopters had their roots in existing disciplinary structures. As a more diverse population gains access to the Internet, some of the underlying organizational devices used to structure discussion space have become increasingly flexible. The Internet is becoming a self organizing system in some cases, imposing a more consensual definition of discipline
