Abstract

Technology is democratising and devaluing information, creating a demand for skills critical to a knowledge society and demand for new learning environment. Institutions need to innovate new apporaches to the use of technology to increase access to the curriculum and rethink the nature of the curriculum. Sets out characteristics of the new learning environment and gives examples of North American universities where these concepts are being put into practice, often through the medium of distance eduction
