Abstract

With RetrievalWare 8.0(TM) the American company Convera offers an elaborated software in the range of Information Retrieval, Information Indexing and Knowledge Management. Convera promises the possibility of handling different file formats in many different languages. Regarding comparable products one innovation is to be stressed particularly: the possibility of the preparation as well as integration of an ontology. One tool of the software package is useful in order to produce ontologies manually, to process existing ontologies and to import the very. The processing of search results is also to be mentioned. By means of categorization strategies search results can be classified dynamically and presented in personalized representations. This study presents an evaluation of the functions and components of the system. Technological aspects and modes of operation under the surface of Convera RetrievalWare will be analysed, with a focus on the creation of libraries and thesauri, and the problems posed by the integration of an existing thesaurus. Broader aspects such as usability and system ergonomics are integrated in the examination as well.

Abstract

Die Weitergabe und Verbreitung von Informationen zählen zu den beliebtesten Aktivitäten in den sozialen Medien. Zahlreiche Nutzungsoptionen (z. B. Posting, Sharing, Retweeting, Reblogging) ermöglichen das schnelle Teilen von Neuigkeiten in unterschiedlichen Formaten. Dabei erfüllen Weitergabe und Verbreitung von Informationen für die User wichtige soziale und kommunikative Funktionen, die über den Kerneffekt der Informationsdiffusion häufig hinausgehen. In unserem Beitrag geben wir auf Basis aktueller Literatur einen Überblick über typische Erklärungsmodelle für Informationsdiffusion einerseits und beschreiben andererseits Motive für die Weitergabe und Verbreitung von Informationen in und mithilfe von sozialen Medien. Wir skizzieren zudem den Einfluss von Netzwerkstrukturen und Informationstypen auf und Barrieren bei der Informationsdiffusion.

Die Welt des wissenschaftlichen Publizierens befindet sich im Umbruch. Das Internet ermöglicht den schnellen und unkomplizierten Zugang zu wissenschaftlicher Information. Dem Trend folgend, haben der Lehrstuhl für Anglistische Sprachwissenschaft der Universität Düsseldorf und der Fachverband für Sprachwissenschaft »Linguistic Society of America« (LSA) die Publikationsplattform eLanguage entwickelt. Die Konzeption der Open Access-Plattform bringt verschiedene Forschergruppen aus der ganzen Welt an einen Tisch. Dabei ist eLanguage nicht nur eine elektronische Zeitschrift, sondern ein Portal, durch das auf eine Sammlung unabhängiger Publikationen, den »cojournals«, zugegriffen werden kann. Jedes Journal hat einen speziellen Fokus und wird durch ein eigenes Redaktionsteam betreut. Cornelius Puschmann stellt das von ihm betreute Publikationsprojekt im Folgenden vor.
