- Abstract
- The important role of psychological research in the field of human-computer interaction is becoming more and more recognized. The principles of how to design a user-oriented system cannot be worked out without the knowledge of how users work with systems. The book containes 18 edited papers presented at the 6th Interdisciplinary Workshop on Informatics and Psychology in Schärding, Austria, May 1987 arranged in five sections. They cover different approaches such as: Human knowledge representation, action regulation and plan recognition, simulation of interaction, formal methods of describing mental models, system design and mental models, learning and mental models

- Abstract
- The literature of psychology, library science, management, computer science, and systems engineering is reviewed and integrated into an overall perspective of human information seeking and the design of information systems. The nature of information seeking is considered in terms of its role in decision making and problem solving, the dynamics of the process, and the value of information. Discussions of human information seeking focus on basic psychological studies, effects of cognitive style, and models of human behavior. Design issues considered include attributes of information systems, analysis of information needs, aids for information seeking, and evaluation of information systems

- Abstract
- Presents an overview of the growth of work in human-computer interaction over the last 40 years. Notes various formative influences and contributing disciplines. Aspects or research and human factors knowledge are prominent, but also gives attention to technology, applied problems, and design for usabiltiy. Summarises the growth in 3 age-group partitions, notes some of the major threads of development under the heading of continuities from the past and perspectives into the future
