    Reviews Idealist for Windows from Blackwell Scientific costing 295 pounds. Idealist is a database management system that handles text. Its features include an inverted file structure to allow rapid retrieval by any word in the text, contextual searching and variable length fields. It is very flexible and handles unstructured records as well. It is able to handle structured records with specific fields. The full Windows version can contain up to 16.000 records per database. The Windows NT version for 32 bit machines will cope with 1 million records per database

    Abstract
    CDS/ISIS is a menu-driven generalized information storage and retrieval system designed specifically for the computerized management of structured non-numerical data bases. The unique characteristic of CDS/ISIS is that it is specifically designed to handle fields (and consequently records) of varying length, thus allowing, on the one hand, an optimum utilization of disk storage and, on the other hand, a complete freedom in defining the maximum length of each field. Although some features of CDS/ISIS require some knowledge of and experience with computerized information systems, once an application has been designed the system may be used by persons having little or no prior computer experience.

    Analyses the functions and applications of the computer program Iride 1.01 (CDS-ISIS Micro), distributed free to Italian schools since 1994 and developed jointly by Florence's teaching documentation library, regional education institutes, the European Education Centre and other bodies.     Abstract
    Ergebnisse einer Umfrage über die Anwendung des Datenbankprogramms CDS/ISIS in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Von 130 angeschriebenem deutschen ISIS-Lizenznehmern haben 42 geantwortet, die das Programm nicht anwenden und 20, die es anwenden. Deren Verhalten, Gründe für die Nicht-Nutzung und verwirklichte Anwendungen wurden ausführlich untersucht und dargelegt.Auf eine allgemeine Auswertung hin folgt ein Überblick über das ISIS-Anwendungsspektrum mit konkreten Einzeldarstellungen aller Anwender. Im ersten Teil werden Hauptmerkmale und -funktionen des leistingsfähigen Programm beschrieben und bewertet, außerdem Bedeutung und Verbreitung in anderen Ländern kurz vorgestellt

    Das Dokument enthält einen Vergleich von sechs Literaturverwaltungsprogrammen - Zotero, Citavi, Mendeley, RefWorks, EndNote und JabRef. Es wurden Versionen mit Stand 11/2016 getestet. Folgende Kriterien wurden berücksichtigt: Allgemeines und Installation, Import- / Exportmöglichkeiten, Dateneingabe und -bearbeitung, Anzeige und Suche, Kooperation, Zitieren und Literaturlisten, weitere Funktionen und Benutzung. Der Vergleich schließt mit einer Gesamtbewertung der Stärken und Schwächen und gibt zielgruppenspezifische Auswahlempfehlungen.

    Abstract
    Dieser Fachbeitrag behandelt die Nachweise paralleler Druck- und Online-Ausgaben in Bibliothekskatalogen und Dokumenten-Suchmaschinen. Der Nachweis hybrider Publikationen, d. h. von parallel als Druck- und als Online-Ausgabe erschienenen Veröffentlichungen in Bibliothekskatalogen und Datenbanken ist von großer Diversität gekennzeichnet. Auch der direkte Zugang über die Kataloge zum im Netz frei verfügbaren elektronischen Gegenstück einer Printpublikation ist nicht selbstverständlich. Am Beispiel ausgewählter hybrider Publikationen wird gezeigt, wie Bibliotheken, Verbünde und Suchmaschinen in Deutschland und weltweit damit umgehen. In einer weitreichenden Analyse haben die Autorinnen die unterschiedlichen Handhabungen analysiert und kritisch bewertet. Die Arbeit gibt einerseits die Ergebnisse der Recherche wieder und richtet andererseits das Augenmerk auf die Notwendigkeit einheitlicher Katalogisierungsrichtlinien für hybride Publikationen.

    Seit 2 Jahren arbeitet die Dokumentationsstelle Obstbau, Berlin, mit dem Datenbanksystem FREITEXT. Das System verwaltet alle Literaturdaten der Dokumentationsstelle seit 1984. Die Daten konnten aus verschiedenen Quellen zusammengeführt werden und stehen dem Benutzer als lokale Datenbank zur Verfügung. FREITEXT hat sich als preiswertes, komfortables und zuverlässiges Retrievalsystem erwiesen
