    Abstract
On 23 June 88 Gütersloh City Library hosted an in-service training session on BASIS (Library Analytical System for Information Storage) programs for acquisitioning and cataloguing as well as on Gütersloh's own integrated book issue system called AVALON, organised through the Scool for Library & Documentation at Cologne Polytechnic. Discusses the programs installed at Gütersloh for BASIS in the early 70s by the North Rhine Westphalia Automation Working Group along with computer personnel and librarians, as well as link-up possibilities with main frame computers issuing book overdues, time and staff implications, the development of AVALON wich, though integrated into BASIS, can still be installed without BASIS, and a glimpse at possible library applications and the requirements of hardware and software linked with this.

    Abstract
In June 2009, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services Heads of Technical Services in Large Research Libraries Interest Group established the Task Force on Cost/Value Assessment of Bibliographic Control to address recommendation 5.1.1.1 of On the Record: Report of the Library of Congress Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control, which focused on developing measures for costs, benefits, and value of bibliographic control. This paper outlines results of that task force's efforts to develop and articulate metrics for evaluating the cost and value of cataloging activities specifically, and offers some next steps that the community could take to further the profession's collective understanding of the costs and values associated with bibliographic control.

    Abstract
In June 2016, the Warburg College library migrated to a new integrated library system, Alma. In the process, we lost the enumeration and chronology data for roughly 79,000 print serial item records. Re-entering all this data by hand seemed an unthinkable task. Fortunately, the information was recorded as free text in each item's description field. By using Python, Alma's API and much trial and error, the Wartburg College library was able to parse the serial item descriptions into enumeration and chronology data that was uploaded back into Alma. This paper discusses the design and feasibility considerations addressed in trying to solve this problem, the complications encountered during development, and the highlights and shortcomings of the collection of Python scripts that became Alma Enumerator.

    Abstract
In an attempt to ascertain whether academic libraries were having difficulty in filling cataloging positions, a survey was designed and distributed to those libraries that advertised for full-time cataloging positions in College and Research Libraries News between July 2000 and June 2002. While a number of studies done in the last decade had examined the content of job advertisements, this study tried to determine the actual outcomes of individual library searches by contacting libraries that had advertised. Using a web-based questionnaire, the authors queried these institutions on their recruitment process and hiring success. The results of this survey provided confirmation of a continued, if not increasing, difficulty in recruiting catalogers for academic libraries. Some implications for a wider debate on library school training and the general direction of the profession are discussed.
