    Abstract
    Aufgrund des lokalen Vertrages mit dem Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst wird nunmehr im Land Baden-Württemberg bei 32 Bibliotheken HORIZON eingesetzt. Die weitere Nutzung im gesamten Geschäftsgang ist geplant, darüber hinaus sollen noch in diesem Jahr die Verbundanforderungen erfüllt werden. Ein Baustein dazu ist das im April übergebene WebPac/ Z39.50-Tool. Insgesamt betreut die Dynix GmbH aktuell in Europa 158 HORIZON-Installationen, davon 84 im deutschsprachigen Europa, 5 in Skandinavien, 2 in den Benelux-Ländern, 3 in Ungarn, 50 in Polen und 14 im restlichen Europa. Etwa 300 Bibliotheken arbeiten in Europa mit HORIZON, die mit dem Dynix-Partner epixtech aus den USA von London und Paris aus supportet werden. Seit Anfang 2001 verfügt die Dynix GmbH über die Source Codes von allen epixtech-Produkten und den damit verbundenen Rechten.

    Barry Budd erklärt, wie XML in Verbindung mit Java optimal funktionieren und Daten zwischen Anwendungen transferieren kann. Das Buch ist nicht nur für Anfänger interessant. Insbesondere Javabewanderte Web-Entwickler finden hier einen geradlinigen und lockeren Einstieg in die Zusammenarbeit von Java und XML. Die ersten 30 Seiten widmen sich der Programmiertheorie, der Installation von Java und den zusätzlich nötigen XMLrelevanten Klassen. Im zweiten Teil erfährt der Leser alles über die lineare Untersuchung von XML-Dateien und die Programmierung mit SAX. Es folgt der holistische Ansatz mit DOM und dessen Java-optimierter, eleganterer Alternative JDOM. XSL, die Anzeige von XML-Daten im Web und Java API for XML-Binding (JAXB) mit der man aus XML-Dokumenten maßgeschneiderte Java-Klassen dateien erstellen kann. Teil drei zeigt Spezialwerkzeuge für Webservices Soap, UDDI, WSDL, Java API for XML Messaging (JAXM) und die Arbeit mit XML-Registraren. Zu den Techniken erfährt der Leser sinnvolle Einsatzszenarien.
