In this edition, there are a total of 1,600 new headings making it a total of 12,000+ preferred headings meant for subject access in small and medium sized libraries. This unprecedented increase of about 1,600 headings is mostly due the complete incorporation of the Canadian Sears last published independently in 2006. Also critically examines inconsistencies in a few headings. Concludes to say the new edition in resplendent, hard binding maintains its stellar reputation of a handy list of general subject headings both for applications and a teaching resource.

    Abstract
    Vom 9. bis 10. Juni luden die Max Planck Gesellschaft (MPG) und FIZ Karlsruhe Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus verschiedenen Disziplinen zu den ersten eSciDoc Days nach Berlin ein. Im Vordergrund der Veranstaltung stand die Gründung einer offenen Community zur Nachnutzung und Weiterentwicklung von eSciDoc, einer innovativen Arbeitsumgebung für die digital gestützte Forschung (e-Research). Knapp 100 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus 40 wissenschaftlichen Organisationen in Europa, USA und Japan folgten der Einladung.

    Abstract
    Ein neuer internationaler Standard der Information und Dokumentation - Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies (ISO 25964) ist in Vorbereitung. Part 1: Thesauri for information retrieval wurde Mitte August als DIS 25964-1 im ISO Central Secretariat eingereicht. Die Motivation zur Entwicklung eines neuen Vokabularstandards sowie die wesentlichen Änderungen und Erweiterungen gegenüber ISO 2788/ISO 5964 werden vorgestellt. Anhand des Datenmodells zu Part 1: Thesauri for information retrieval werden die grundlegenden Elemente, Attribute und Relationen kurz erläutert. Mit der Arbeit an Part 2: Interoperability with other vocabularies wurde Ende Juni 2009 begonnen. Es sollen Richtlinien erarbeitet werden, um Interoperabilität zwischen Thesauri und anderen Vokabularien wie Normdateien für Namen, Schlagwortlisten, Ontologien, Klassifikationen und dgl. zu gewähren. Der erste Commitee Draft (CD 25964-2) ist für Juni 2010 geplant. Über den Stand der Entwicklung des 2. Teiles wird kurz referiert.
