    Abstract
    Unternehmen sehen sich heutzutage regelmäßig der Herausforderung gegenübergestellt, aus umfangreichen Mengen an Dokumenten schnell relevante Informationen zu identifizieren. Dabei zeigt sich jedoch, dass Suchverfahren, die lediglich syntaktische Abgleiche von Informationsbedarfen mit potenziell relevanten Dokumenten durchführen, häufig nicht die an sie gestellten Erwartungen erfüllen. Viel versprechendes Potenzial bietet hier der Einsatz von Ontologien für das Information Retrieval. Beim ontologiebasierten Information Retrieval werden Ontologien eingesetzt, um Wissen in einer Form abzubilden, die durch Informationssysteme verarbeitet werden kann. Eine Berücksichtigung des so explizierten Wissens durch Suchalgorithmen führt dann zu einer optimierten Deckung von Informationsbedarfen. Jan Hermans stellt in seinem Buch ein adaptives Referenzmodell für die Entwicklung von ontologiebasierten Information Retrieval-Systemen vor. Zentrales Element seines Modells ist die einsatzkontextspezifische Adaption des Retrievalprozesses durch bewährte Techniken, die ausgewählte Aspekte des ontologiebasierten Information Retrievals bereits effektiv und effizient unterstützen. Die Anwendung des Referenzmodells wird anhand eines Fallbeispiels illustriert, bei dem ein Information Retrieval-System für die Suche nach Open Source-Komponenten entwickelt wird. Das Buch richtet sich gleichermaßen an Dozenten und Studierende der Wirtschaftsinformatik, Informatik und Betriebswirtschaftslehre sowie an Praktiker, die die Informationssuche im Unternehmen verbessern möchten. Jan Hermans, Jahrgang 1978, studierte Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. Seit 2003 war er als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am European Research Center for Information Systems der WWU Münster tätig. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte lagen in den Bereichen Wissensmanagement und Information Retrieval. Im Mai 2008 erfolgte seine Promotion zum Doktor der Wirtschaftswissenschaften.

    Abstract
    A study of the online catalogues of major academic libraries and databases in the Netherlands shows considerable variation in the form of name used for the author W.F. Hermans. The problem lies with a lack of authority control in headings used in the Dutch national union Pica catalogue. Reactions from 2 cataloguers point to the difficulties in maintaining catalogues in the face of reduced funding and to the important role played by the Pica project in improving library services and reducing cataloguing backlogs

    Abstract
    Vom 14. bis 17. Juli fand in Rio de Janeiro die 12th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics statt. Das von den Organisatoren formulierte Ziel der Tagung war es, ein internationals Forum für Wissenschaftler, Wissenschaftsmanager und im Informationsbereich Tätige zu bieten, um den gegenwärtigen Stand und die Fortschritte im Feld szientometrischer Theorien und Anwendungen zu diskutieren. Nachdem die letzten beiden Konferenzen in Europa stattgefunden hatten (Stockholm und Madrid), war mit der Wahl des Tagungsortes zudem der Anspruch verknüpft, einen Beitrag zur weiteren Verbreitung der Szientometrie in lateinamerikanischen Ländern zu leisten. Die Konferenz verzeichnete die in ihrer bisherigen Geschichte höchste Zahl von eingereichten Beiträgen (254), von denen 66 Prozent angenommen wurden. Das endgültige Programm umfasste damit zwei Keynotes, über 90 Vorträge in 21 Sessions sowie 64 Poster.     Abstract
    Plattformen für Blended Learning, Lernsysteme (wie Moodle), Dienste im Web 2.0 (z. B. Facebook), ePortfolio-Systeme (beispielsweise Mahara), Verfilmungen von Lehrveranstaltungen und weitere Informationsdienste haben breite Anwendung in der Lehre gefunden. Durch das Angebot mobiler Endgeräte (Smartphones, Tablet-Rechner und Laptops) werden die Dienste zunehmend mobil genutzt. Dieser Bericht gibt in informationswissenschaftlicher Perspektive Forschungsergebnisse wieder, die auf der 6. ICT Konferenz in Hongkong "Education unplugged: Mobile Technologies and Web 2.0" (Juli 2011) vorgetragen worden sind.

    Abstract
    Wissenschaftliche Karrieren und Publikationen benötigen Reputation und möglichst viel Beachtung. Literatur, die diese Aufmerksamkeit findet, wird - so die gängige Annahme - häufig zitiert. Ausgehend von dieser Überlegung wurden Verfahren der Zitationsmessung entwickelt, die Auskunft über die Relevanz oder (wie im- und explizit oft auch postuliert wird) gar die Qualität einer Publikation oder eines Wissenschaftlers geben sollen.

    Abstract
    Vor 20 Jahren, genau gesagt am 26. Juli 1996, erblickte die Literatursuchmaschine "KVK" das Licht der Internet-Welt. Seit damals wurden mehrere Milliarden Suchanfragen von Karlsruhe aus an andere Web-Kataloge von Bibliotheken und Verbünden geschickt, Trefferlisten ausgewertet und den Nutzern in einheitlicher Form präsentiert. Dieser Beitrag erklärt, warum der KVK entwickelt wurde und warum es diesen "Internet-Dino" auch heute noch gibt und beschreibt den aktuellen Stand.
