    Abstract
    Die Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB) will das gesamte kulturelle Erbe Deutschlands - Bücher, Bilder, Noten, Filme, Museumsobjekte - für alle Bürger digital zugänglich machen. Dazu sollen nicht weniger als 30000 Kultur- und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen im Land miteinander vernetzt werden. Ein gewaltiges Ziel - mit enormen Kosten und zahlreichen technischen Hürden. BuB-Redakteur Bernd Schleh hat mit dem Vorstandssprecher des Kompetenznetzwerks der DDB, Professor Hermann Parzinger, über Verheißungen und Probleme des Mega-Projekts gesprochen, dessen erste Inhalte schon in diesem Jahr frei zugänglich sein sollen.

    ""Wie stelle ich ein Quaternion her?" Solche Fragen bewegen die Welt - oder zumindest die Gruppe "Grafik, 3D & Design > 3D-Programme > Cinema 4D" auf tutorials.de. Sie dagegen fragen vielleicht, was zum Henker ein Quaternion überhaupt ist, wozu irgendjemand so was braucht - und warum der Kaffee schon wieder alle ist. Aber dass Quaternions die Welt bewegen, ist beweisbar. Zum Gedenken an Gaston Maurice Julia, geboren am 3. Februar 1893, gestaltete das Team der Web-Suchmaschine Google an dem Jahrestag ihr Logo ein wenig um. Gedenken an wen? Den Mathematiker Julia, Wegbereiter der Fraktale. Der was? Sie fragen ja schon wieder. "Fraktale Geometrie bezeichnet die Wissenschaft zur Untersuchung von Objekten, weiche eine hohe Selbstähnlichkeit in sich selbst aufweisen." Das war wohl nix, de.wikipedia.org. Fraktale sind unheimlich toll aussehende Grafiken, die mit mathematischen Formeln, Chaostheorie, Gaston Maurice Julia und seinem Kollegen Benoit Mandelbrot zu tun haben. Jetzt klar? Google also gratulierte mit dem umgestalteten Logo dem Vater der Fraktale. Wer es anklickte, bekam das Ergebnis einer Bildersuche nach Fraktalen auf den Schirm. Darunter war gleich zweimal die Homepage des Quaternion-Experten Paul Bourke vom Swinburne Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing.     Der Wikipedia-Experte Jakob Voß plädiert dafür, Opacs mit Inhalten aus Wikis, Weblogs und Bookmarking-Diensten anzureichern Auf dem Leipziger Bibliothekskongress hat Jakob Voß einen Vortrag zum Thema »Soziale Software - Hype oder Verheißung?« gehalten - und damit eine der bestbesuchten Veranstaltungen eingeleitet. Der 28-Jährige hat Informatik, Bibliothekswissenschaft und Philosophie in Chemnitz und Berlin studiert und arbeitet als Entwickler beim Gemeinsamen Bibliotheksverbund GBV in Göttingen. Seit 2002 gehörter zum Vorstand von Wikimedia Deutschland, einem »Verein zur Förderung des freien Wissens«, dessen prominentestes Förderprojekt die Web-Enzyklopädie Wikipedia ist.     Abstract
    Normdaten spielen speziell im Hinblick auf die Qualität der Inhaltserschließung bibliografischer und archivalischer Ressourcen eine wichtige Rolle. Ein konkretes Ziel der Inhaltserschließung ist z. B., dass alle Werke über Hermann Hesse einheitlich zu finden sind. Hier bieten Normdaten eine Lösung, indem z. B. bei der Erschließung einheitlich die GND-Nummer 11855042X für Hermann Hesse verwendet wird. Das Ergebnis ist eine höhere Qualität der Inhaltserschließung vor allem im Sinne von Einheitlichkeit und Eindeutigkeit und, daraus resultierend, eine bessere Auffindbarkeit. Werden solche Entitäten miteinander verknüpft, z. B. Hermann Hesse mit einem seiner Werke, entsteht ein Knowledge Graph, wie ihn etwa Google bei der Inhaltserschließung des Web verwendet (Singhal 2012). Die Entwicklung des Google Knowledge Graph und das hier vorgestellte Protokoll sind historisch miteinander verbunden: OpenRefine wurde ursprünglich als Google Refine entwickelt, und die Funktionalität zum Abgleich mit externen Datenquellen (Reconciliation) wurde ursprünglich zur Einbindung von Freebase entwickelt, einer der Datenquellen des Google Knowledge Graph. Freebase wurde später in Wikidata integriert. Schon Google Refine wurde zum Abgleich mit Normdaten verwendet, etwa den Library of Congress Subject Headings (Hooland et al. 2013).

    Abstract
    Das Internetangebot vieler Bibliotheken ist derart umfangreich, dass eigentlich eine Einführung in Dienstleistungen und Funktionalität sinnvoll erscheint. Nun nimmt aber nicht gleich jeder Nutzer an entsprechenden Einführungen teil, zumal für derartige Veranstaltungen auch noch die Anwesenheit in der Bibliothek zu einer bestimmten Zeit erforderlich wird. Sidemaps und Suchfunktion führen nicht immer zum Ziel, eine virtuelle Führung durch das Angebot über die Homepage ist eine mögliche Alternative.

    Abstract
    Bericht über die Jahrestagung der IASA-Ländergruppe Deutschland/ Deutschschweiz e.V. am 4. und 5. November 2005 in Fribourg Gastgeberin der Jahrestagung 2005 der IASA-Ländergruppe Deutschland/Deutschschweiz e. V. war die Ecole d'ingenieurs et d'architectes de Fribourg (EIF-Hochschule für Technik und Architektur Freiburg), bei der die wissenschaftliche Erforschung und technische Umsetzung des Projekts VisualAudio angesiedelt sind. Der Abschluss der Prototyp-Phase war Anlass für die Einladung nach Fribourg, und die öffentliche Präsentation von VisualAudio war dementsprechend auch Schwerpunkt und roter Faden dieser Tagung. Alles war vom Organisationskomitee um Julia Brügger und Prof. Ottar Johnsen von der EIF sowie Pio Pellizzari, Direktor der Fonoteca Naziovale Svizzera (FNS), mit Schweizer Präzision bestens organisiert, sodass die rund 5o Tagungsteilnehmer viele neue Einblicke, wertvolle Erkenntnisse und natürlich die Erinnerung an angenehme Tage in der schönen Zähringerstadt Fribourg mit nach Hause nehmen konnten.
